1) GERUND
a) avoid, delay, dislike,enjoy, excuse, finish, miss, risk, practise, stop, suggest, like,appreciate, consider, deny, give up, prevent, put off
Ex: On Sundays I like relaxing. On holiday I enjoy diving
Exception: prefer, like: I prefer having|to have my coffee black.
b) By Event: we use would like to do sth. Ex: What would you like to do now? At the moment, I wouldn’t like to cook anything.
By general: like + V-ing Ex: What does she like doing? She like dancing
c) Would you mind…?
If you want to sound particularly polite, or if you think the answer may be negative, you can also use Would you mind + verb-ing as the preferred alternative to Could you…? Would you mind…? literally means: Would you object to…?
- Would you mind locking the door when you leave? ~ No, not at all!
- Could you please lock the door when you leave? ~ Yes, certainly!
- If you’re not busy at the moment, would you mind helping me with my homework?
- If you’re not busy at the moment, could you give me a hand with my homework?
2) QUESTIONS WITH LIKE:
a)What is she like? —> Tell me about her because I don’t know anything about her
b)What does she look like?—>Tell me about her physical appearance
c)What does she like doing?—>Tell me about her interests and hobbies
d)What would she like to do?–>Tell me about her preferences for tomorrow evening.
3) AUSDRUCK mit GERUNDIUM:
- It’s not worth waiting for him
- It’s not use waiting for her
- It’s no good waiting for them
- There’s no point waiting for you
